Incredible value for money! The Eye of Horus house is a little out of the way of the touristy area which is lovely as you can get a real feel for Egyptian life.

It has a supermarket and some restaurants and cafes very close by. The staff here are very attentive and there is a guard at the door 24 hours. The apartment is incredible.

Personally I think this place is fantastic. The only things that could improve it is double beds in the master rooms as a pose to twins and a pool to get away from the heat although this would be difficult to do here.

All the rooms have air con and fans and there is a lovely roof terrace with sunbeds and a wonderful view of Luxor and the mountain beyond. We also have a private balcony.

We are staying in the pharaoh room which has beautiful Egyptian paintings in all the rooms. The WiFi can be a little temperamental at times but it is fine for general web surfing etc ….

Date of stay: November Location. Room Tip: Go for the Pharaoh room It is beautiful! Helpful Share. Broadstairs, United Kingdom 75 contributions 15 helpful votes.

An apartment not to be overlooked. When we first arrived here we couldn't believe how lucky we were. We were given the pharaonic room which stands out with all the Egyptian themed scenes painted on the walls.

The apartments are bigger than what I thought they would be and every room was spotless throughout. Our kitchen was equipped with an oven wasn't working , washing machine, fridge, cutlery and crockery for two or three people and various baskets for storage.

The main living has many sofas and chairs which are a welcome sight after returning from a tour; the ceiling fan is a very welcome addition and works well also.

The balcony is a good sun trap and has a table, two chairs and a drying rack to use if you've utilised the washing machine. If you so wished, the rooftop offers sunbeds, tables and chairs, a toilet and also a shower.

The apartment has two bedrooms, both very good sizes, both with fans, both with good sized wardrobes, tables provided and both with two single beds only.

The bathroom is clean but the bath is quite small, it also has a shower extention connected to the taps if you wish to use, however, there is no shower curtain so it could prove difficult to have a shower.

In general, the apartment is fantastic considering the price we paid and majority of the time we were out so it fulfilled it's purpose, all electrics worked, plenty of plug sockets and very good lighting even on the balcony.

The location is perfect, it's away from the busy areas and you are a two minute walk from a well stocked supermarket.

It is self catering but personally I thought it added to the experience. I would strongly recommend this place if you want to stay in Luxor, I know we will be returning here in the near future.

These apartments are in a great location to enjoy being in the less touristy area of Luxor. It is only a short walk down to the Nile and all the hotels, banks etc or head in the opposite direction to Television Street and all the restaurants and shops which are based there.

The apartment was spacious, air-conditioned and fairly well equipped - although I didn't do any cooking as it was so cheap to eat out or get takeaway food delivered.

Quick Pizza was indeed very quick! It was lovely to sit out on the balcony or the roof terrace which had a much used shaded area - essential in June - with views across the Nile to the West Bank.

The apartment was good value for money and it was reassuring that there was always security staff at the entrance. There is an excellent supermarket less than metres away.

We got our stay very cheap. It's not in the middle of everything but once you know your way it's easy to walk or take a taxi anywhere.

The rooms are big and nice.

Due to its powerful protective powers, the Eye of Horus was popularly used by the ancient Egyptians, both the living and the dead, as amulets.

Even today, the Eye of Horus continues to be used as a symbol of protection. The origin of the Eye of Horus may be found in the myth of Set and Osiris.

The ancient Egyptians believed that Osiris was the king of Egypt and that his brother, Set, desired his throne. Through trickery, Set succeeded in murdering his brother and became the new king.

The sculpture portrays a woman raising her right arm over her head, a typical gesture of mourning. Osiris went on to become the god of the Underworld and Isis raised Horus on her own.

When Horus reached adulthood, he sought to avenge the death of his father. Horus fought Set in a series of battles, and eventually vanquished his uncle.

During these struggles, however, he lost one of his eyes. In another version, it was Horus himself who gouged his eye out, as a sacrifice to bring his father back from the dead.

Amulets of this symbol have been made using a variety of materials, including gold, lapis lazuli, and carnelian, and have been used as jewelry by both the living and the dead.

Interestingly, the Eye of Horus is not merely a magical symbol but is also an example of the mathematical knowledge acquired by the ancient Egyptians.

As a symbol, the Eye of Horus contains six parts. In ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic orthography, isolated parts of the "Eye of Horus" symbol were believed to be used to write various fractions.

Each of the six parts of the Eye of Horus correspond to a different sense. The right side of the eye is associated with the sense of smell, as it is closest to the nose and resembles this organ.

Needless to say, the pupil represents the sense of sight, while the eyebrow represents thought, as it can be used to express our thoughts. The left side of the eye represents the sense of hearing, as it points towards the ear, and has the shape of a musical instrument.

The curved tail resembles a sprout from a planted stalk of wheat or grain. As a representation of food, this part of the Eye of Horus corresponds to the sense of taste.

Finally, the teardrop is supposed to represent the sense of touch, as this part of the Eye represents a stalk being planted into the ground, an act that involves physical contact and touching.

Although the ancient Egyptian civilization came to an end, the belief in the potency of the Eye of Horus continued and this symbol is still used by many today.

Excellent location. These apartments are in a great location to enjoy being in the less touristy area of Luxor. Five of the elements in the eye represent the five senses and the sixth corresponds to thought.

The eyebrow represents thought as it is close to the brain. The pupil obviously represents sight. The right side of the pupil, which is closest to the nose, is associated with the sense of smell.

The left side of the pupil, represents hearing, as it is close to the ear. The curved part that looks like a tongue, represents taste.

Lastly, the teardrop, which looks like a leg touching the ground, represents touch. As mentioned earlier, ancient Egyptians used amulets with the symbol for protection.

This jewellery was also used in funerals. Amulets which were found in pyramids and sarcophagi suggest that pharaohs were buried with them, to guide them to the next world.

The ancient Egyptians also used to paint the Horus Eye on the bows of their boats, for the eye to guide and protect them on their dangerous voyages.

Although we live in modern times, the belief in the Horus Eye and the practices continue. Besides protection, many consider the Eye as a symbol of power and knowledge.

You will also find the symbol is a popular design for tattoos. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.
